The final BAS Agent Association Group (BASAAG) meeting for 2018 was held via telepresence on Friday 7 December. The key messages regarding Single Touch Payroll and the Tax Practitioners Board’s continuing professional education (CPE) have now been made available, and can be found here. Your Association (Australian Bookkeepers Association) is a long-time member of BASAAG where take up your concerns/ issues/ideas/interests with the ATO. A summary of the key messages follows:
The majority of payroll software providers are offering Single Touch Payroll However if your employers do not currently use payroll software there are a number of alternate ways to report through Single Touch Payroll. The ATO have asked software developers to build a number of low-cost Single Touch Payroll solutions at or below $10 per month which includes mobile phone apps and various portals. These alternatives will be available by July 2019.
The TPB are continuing audits of individuals CPE records, these reviews will assess tax practitioners compliance with the TPB policy to ensure the knowledge and skills relevant to the service provided is maintained. ABN have developed a CPE Register and Guide that you can use to assist with your record keeping requirements.
