8:30am Opening Remarks

Opening Keynote: Think Better. Be Better... Together
Speaker: Josie Thomson

Session description:
When it comes to feeling better about ourselves, and our place in the world, the biggest and most complex obstacle we need to manage is our mind. If we can manage that, we can adaptively handle almost anything life throws at us.

The key is in accepting the fact that while we cannot control what happens in life, we CAN control how we respond to it all. And in our response is our power to grow better and move forward.

So if you’re willing to redefine what is possible to lead and live a happier life, and you’re ready to move your life and business forward, you won’t want to miss this session.

You will learn and begin to use a proven set of tools for reducing needless stress and negative self-talk, improving your happiness and increasing positive results to build resilience capability in constantly changing environments. Look at how much change you’ve already grown through! This will up your game and sense of empowerment and resourcefulness to the next level.

Learn what the common blocks and challenges are to embracing and adapting to constant change. You will also learn practical ways to build greater resilience capability.

Bring along an open mind, willing ears and prepare to learn some useful strategies to build a solid and sustainable platform for greater happiness, success and fulfillment in your work and life.

12:30pm Lunch

Session: Understanding eInvoicing
Speaker: ABN & ATO

Session description:
eInvoicing is the future of invoicing and a revolutionary way of doing business. It has been implemented to significant effect already overseas, and businesses have benefitted dramatically from cost savings, reduction in computer fraud and speedier payments. In this session, we will dive a little deeper and look at how the eInvoicing rollout is progressing while showing how you and your clients can make the most of the change.

Session: Estate Planning - What's the Story for Bookkeepers
Speaker: Matthew Burgess

Session description:

The pace of evolution of all aspects of estate planning has continued to intensify in recent times.

The new normal is for trusted advisers - not lawyers - to project manage achieving estate planning solutions for their clients.

Bookkeepers can play a critical role in areas that have changed significantly, such as the:

(a) ability to structure estate plans to minimise the risk that assets will be attacked on the relationship breakdown of a beneficiary.

(b) use of enduring powers of attorney to manage superannuation death benefit nominations.

(c) testamentary trusts and excepted trust income.

This presentation will use story sharing to explore all key recent developments - and opportunities for bookkeepers including:

  1.      key estate planning-related court decisions
  2.      taxation and stamp duty changes
  3.      examples of the attitude of the Australian Taxation Office towards various estate planning strategies
  4.      facilitation and project management approaches

3:30pm Afternoon Tea

Session: The Power of Mindfulness
Speaker: Lauren Cox

Session description:
Picture this: you've got one client who is always blaming and accusing, another who constantly needs to be saved and then an accountant who says you never do anything right. What a combination!
You may have been involved in a combination of these dynamics at work (and even at home!). It's easy to feel powerless in these situations and stuck in the drama. However, there is another way!
In this session, we will dive into Karpman's drama triangle and then learn how to shift this to a more empowering dynamic. Be ready to get interactive, have some fun and discover a framework that you can apply to all areas of your life!

4:50pm Closing Remarks

8:30am Opening Remarks

Your dedicated ABA Directors sit on a number of representation boards and groups with the ATO and TPB. The Directors will give an update from these representation groups, on the latest changes and discussions which impact the bookkeeping industry.

Session: Dealing with Clients Under Debt Pressure
Speaker: Ashley Shield

Session description:
Times “they are a changing” with businesses under increasing pressures from creditors, lenders and the ATO. Insolvency practitioners are now getting busier as some businesses fold. Maybe your client is struggling, maybe they are at risk if a major customer cannot pay, maybe they simply want to ensure they are well protected if something goes astray. This session looks at what to do when times get tough, dealing with the new ATO debt enforcement regime but also the human element in dealing with clients under debt pressure.

10:30am Morning Tea

Session: I am a Bookkeeper! Can I HR!
Speaker: Damien Gooden

Session description:
Want to know how to help with your clients' HR?
Recruitment/Onboarding, Underperforming Employees and Terminating and how to monetise it all.
Also - some hints and tips around those tricky conversations

Session: Adding a new revenue line to your bookkeeping business
Speaker: Clayton Oates

Session description:
The power of a business (when built well) is enabling you to gain leverage by either creating more income or freeing up additional time. This session is about helping you achieve both. You already have the client and providing services to them, but did you know that there is untapped revenue-generating potential and latent demand sitting within your client base which once discovered and delivered can dramatically benefit both you and your client’s businesses.
By attending this session, you will;

  • Learn how to create more leverage within your bookkeeping business with your existing clients
  • Discover how to identify additional revenue lines that you can provide to your clients
  • Find out about which additional services clients want from you
  • Help you determine which new services you will enjoy delivering to current and future clients
  • Discover how to categorise your income types in order to enhance your effective rate
  • Learn how to package, price, and promote additional revenue lines to your client base

12:30pm Lunch

Breakout Session: The Power of Gratitude
Speaker: Lauren Cox

Session description:

Whether it stems from the acceptance of another’s kindness, an appreciation for the majesty of nature, or a recognition of the gifts in one’s own life, gratitude enhances nearly all spheres of our human experience - Emmons & Stern, 2013.
In recent years, an abundance of research has arisen around the practice of gratitude. The art of expressing gratitude builds resilience, changes our physiology, enhances relationships, improves our satisfaction for life and protects against challenges. So, get ready to dive into the power of gratitude, discover the science behind this practice and how you can integrate this into your life today!

Breakout Session: Be your Accountants preferred Bookkeeper with digital EOFY solutions
Speaker: Kerrie Jarius

Session description:
Clever use of digital solutions for clients’ year-end reporting is smart because it streamlines your EOFY workflow and improves efficiency. Importantly though, it becomes your silent marketing tool with accountants. Done well both your client and their accountant benefit from your good work, lifting your profile with both. Word-of-mouth referral from these two people is statistically your strongest source of new work. Accountant advocates are gold; they think of you first and they send you their better referrals. This session explores year-end digitisation that helps transform your client’s accountant into your advocate.
