Leadership in Business

ABN Latest News

Last week we watched a presentation by a top level American CEO by the name of Warren Rustand. It was one of the most compelling speeches on personal development and leadership within a business that we have ever attended.  We would like to share something that we think we could all learn from.

Warren presented us with the following video. Be warned, it is Americanised and overly dramatic. However, the message is one that is crucial for all business leaders:

Consider your position. If you are a bookkeeper reading this, you are a business leader not only in your own business but also in every single one of your clients. Your clients are also business leaders inside their own businesses. Recognising your role with your clients and delivering on that role is crucial to your success as a business owner but also as a trusted advisor within your clients businesses.

Attitude is so important. Too often we see leaders with negative attitudes. This affects your entire team and will ensure your business or your clients business does not achieve its potential. An attitude of positivity, where anything can be achieved- that will promote success.

If you have a team, or maybe some clients that you think could benefit – consider showing them this video. It’s a reminder that we all make a commitment in business. Are we living up to that commitment to do our best? What really is achievable when we commit ourselves to a goal?

Once you lead from the front, your team will follow. And if they don’t follow- ask them to align themselves to your business values or leave your business.

By the way, your business values should be written down and should be known to every member of staff. We display ours in our office everyday. Next week, we are asking our team to tell us if those values still accurately reflect the way we want to run our business. If they do, we will ask them to commit to those values.

Leadership in business is about discipline, determination and commitment. Once you commit yourself to a goal, truly, then you can lead yourselves, your team and your clients.
